Saturday, March 7 at MVRC

Despite changing conditions the track seemed to play fairly; winning pace figs: (FT/SY) 5 Sprints 0.83 – 0 wire to wire; 0 Routes 1.48 – 0 wire to wire

Race 1 –  Heavy favorite WAR HAWK #1 (winner $2.20) defeated several of these but was just edged by her stalemate last time. Back class and strong connections set her apart from the others. Three year old UNDAUNTED COURAGE #2 (fourth) has been solid, slight improvement gets it done for her. P P H PERFECTSTORM #6 (second) is a late runner that might surprise if put into the race early. Maybe the new rider will shake things up. 1/6 exacta $21.00

Race 2 – PRIZE PATROL #1 (winner $5.80) might be as fit as any of these. SOMETHIN SOMETHIN #5 (fifth) has been away from the races for six weeks but could still have enough the tank to skate home a winner today. PISTOLANNIE #4 (second) was eliminated early in hot heat 04Feb. Racing for the second time today she could show steep improvement. 1/4 exacta $25.00

Race 3 – LONGCOLDWINTER #5 (fourth) should get a lot of attention considering her name. Shipping from Turfway with a gate work here she is also the top choice from among those who have raced. First time starter CANDY WAR #1A (second) was bred by trending stallion War Chant. KONCRETE KOWGIRL #4 (seventh – last) went “speed and fade” in her last couple trips here running for a tag.

Race 4 – ZEDONIA #3 (second) ran behind sharp TAMMY’S CHOICE here before diving into Turfway stakes company. She might be ripe to rip today. Distinguished Ohio stakes runner JUSTALITTLESMOKE #4 (winner $3.00) will be “much the best” if fit after a four month rest. Robert Goraham sends SOMETHING NICE #1 (third) along with her stalemate (JUSTALITTLESMOKE). She will be looking to wire this group. 4/3 exacta $8.20; 4/3/1 trifecta $4.85

Race 5 – This race is cluttered with shippers. Four of the seven entrants raced elsewhere last time. None of the trainers bringing in new stock can be ignored. Local runner NAHIMA #6 (winner $4.60) has enjoyed her move from Canada. Her running style fits this surface and she will test the “new girls in town.”  MAGICAL ACT #3 (fifth – last) could not get by the top selection in January but has won a race since then. She may be sharp today. Loooch racing has shuffled PRETZEL LOGIC #4 (third) here with high expectations. Beaten by a next time winner in her last trip at Sam Houston, she has a workout at Mountaineer apparently pointing for this purse. However, this is the seventh horse shipped from Houston by Loooch; just one has one.

Race 6 – How did ZEDONIA do in the fourth race? VIVE LA VIE #1 (third) out dueled that one in their last. She seems to have the running style and raw talent to put her right back in the winners circle today. A good report on ZEDONIA would be encouraging. THANK YOU FOR ME #8 (second) should not be penalized for getting caught last time, she had a lot of catching up to do early. HANDSOME MIKE #4 (fourth) last raced only on the sluggish 2014 surface. Expect him more involved today.

Race 7 – Joe Woodard looks to score with another classy Turfway shipper NEVERRGUWITHRICHIE #1 (fourth). Woodard’s record making this move is 15-6-5-3. LITTLE TIFFY #2 (second) is beginning to meet her potential. WHAT OUTA WHO #7 (seventh – last) gets some class relief and a new jock today. Keep an eye on LADY PANTHER #4 (winner $27.20) making her first start since entering the Spiess barn. 4/2 exacta $119.80

Race 8 – Raw times generate a straight trifecta here: PETUNIA BE CAREFUL #3 (winner $6.20), SILKY SAINT #6 (second), GLORIOSO #2 (fourth). That threesome must be broken up to find value. SWEET CONSOLIDATOR #7 (seventh) is an interesting prospect stretching out from a front running sprint score. 3/6 exacta $22.20
