Today’s winning pace figures: (SY) 4 Sprints 1.33 – 1 wire to wire; 2 Routes 2.45 – 2 wire to wire. It was a tough day to get a grip on how the track was playing.
Race 1 – It is very difficult to look beyond the morning line favorite SCOTCHNWATER #1 (winner $3.60).
Race 2 -His last trip makes DAVE’S KIND EYES #5 (third) much the fastest of these. However, these Ohio-breds can frustrate. On their days QUEENS NOTICE #1 (second) and LAST EFFORT #4 (fifth) are capable of topping the top chalk.
Race 3 – Lightly raced SHA’DYNASTY #2 (fifth) is eligible to improve against some that are becoming career maidens. New York shippers BLAZING LIGHTNING #1 (fifth) and stablemate THAT’S NO LIMIT #1A (sixth) might be worth a walk to the paddock.
Race 4 – It cost $100,000 to breed SECRET INVASION #5 (third). I’m sure the plan is to gain some confidence and then go chase some purses that can get back some of that investment. This field will provide plenty of challenge for that regally bred son of Smart Strike. EVIL LAD #4 (second) has enough speed to be part of the stretch drive drama.
IL MANGIA TROPPO #2 (scratch) skated home to his maiden victory at today’s distance after dropping to the $5k tag.
Race 5 – Joe Woodard’s Turfway import VITA DESIDERATA #6 (second) looked untouchable 31Jan but runner up GLOBAL ALLIANCE #4 (third) had a tougher trip then came back to run competitively with very speedy HOLIDAY LUNCH going shorter.
MR HONEY BADGER #3 returns to the Mahoning Valley where he was very sharp against allowance company in December. RICHARD’S TUNE #2 (winner $11.40) touted by the Railbird in this morning’s newspaper is dropping to the level that he faced in Chicago after chasing some of the fastest locals in his Mahoning Vallye debut. (2/6 exacta $36.00)
Race 6 – SCOTTY TEMPO #4 (eighth – last) woke up at a price 7Feb, but can’t be discounted if he races today. He beat at least two next time winners in that race on Saturday – returns too soon? SNEAK A SMILE #1 (third) is a fast as any of these; was eliminated from his last race by a bump at the start. HE’S MY BRO #8 (second) has surprising speed and showed some life in his last race. RED OCTOBER #5 (seventh) looks fit, is the third choice in SCOTTY TEMPO scratches.
Race 7 – Of those that have run here
SALTY MUSIC #1 (scratch) is the quickest at modified sprints. If they shift to six furlongs SENOR RED #4 (fourth) has been the clock stopper. However, the three new faces may have a say in the outcome. BIG FLIRT #5 (winner $5.40) has been freshening since November claim for his 9yo season – he’s a proven winner at this level. SPICY SALSA #3 (fifth – last) ships from Charles Town looking to wire this group. She draws Angel Stanley to ride.
Race 8 – VALID DISTINCTION #7 (winner $5.80) seems to be in position for a return score. She is sharp and beat a next time winner in her last race. When MS BELVEDERE #2 (seventh – last) pops it’s at today’s distance. PRINCESS GONE WILD #3 (fourth) has a work here since being claimed. She’s the one to catch.
