MVR 2-10-16

Ramblings aren’t always wagers.

Race 1 – #6 MOZZAFIATO has paid her dues at this level; got tangled in traffic last time. #1 DIXIE BREW has to contend with open company and a sticky rail. Tampa invader #3 LIL ESCAPE ARTIST may take first run which could be a challenge against these; competition in Florida demands respect – scratch #3; 5-6*-7-2 ($7.40)

Race 2 – #3 JOYCE THE NURSE is climbing in class but can’t be ignored since both trainer Joe Poole and jock Dean Sarvis have been rolling very well lately. #4 TICKET TO RICHES is in for an outfit that has been bringing well-meant runners north after prepping at Turfway. Classy #5 SHOES FOR JLO probably needed her last but was not flattered yesterday when the horse she ran behind last time failed to fire. #2 QUEEN CONCERTO does not make this ticket; risky business to ignore this crew of a troubled trip – 2-6-3*-5* ($5.80)

Race 3 – #5 OLD CENTRE finished too strongly last time to be dismissed; barn sends out repeaters at 38%. #7 WILD CRAZY BESS just missed at this level; keeps the top pick honest. New face in town #4 SAY A HAIL MARY ships in for nationally know trainer Michael Stidham shopping for the elusive fourth win while the first stringers run at The Fairgrounds – 1-7*-6-4* ($29.00)

Race 4 – The nature of this condition allows #1 HE’S ETAIN to land in what appears to be a soft spot as the Sullivan barn shoots for a big afternoon. #3 ABRA fits at this level for Sharon Ruberto who brought a winner off the bench yesterday. Potential lone speed #6 HAWKS NEST made an impressive local debut; sports solid back class – 3*-4-1*-6 ($7.80)

Race 5 – These Ohio-bred maidens continue to baffle. It is interesting to see Wesley Ward with an entry. Breeder Peter J Sheppel’s name seems to pop-up in the past performances of solid Ohio runners so #2 BAREFOOT GYPSY gets an uniformed lean; a first time starter scored in one of these yesterday. #9 ANSWER QUIETLY entered life in the stable of another recognizable Ohio breeder Langsem Farm; adds blinkers and cuts back. A trouble free trip might put #7 ROBERT;S UNBRIDLED in the hunt – 2**-7*-11-9 ($3.40)

Race 6 – #8 (PP7) ALTERNATIVE should add spark in second race back. Veteran #1A (POE/PP12) PETER’S CREEK has been inching closer; knows how to find the line first at this distance. #9 (PP8) SEATTLE PRINCE did not bring his best last time – scratch 1A: 11-1-9*-6 ($7.40)

Race 7 – #7 STARSHIP CAPTAIN touts a big fig last time at Turfway; 08July win at Penn National established dirt ability. #12 PLAYING WITH FIRE returns to preferred distance. #6 MIGHTY HUTCH is a threat to get loose – 7**-12*-9-3 ($5.60)

Race 8 – #1 (POE/PP4) SHADES OF LIGHT gained experience between horses before fading in first career start; hopefully not a $90k  bust. #3 (PP2) NOTSOFREE went well while wide in career debut – 8-9-1*-6 (about $8.00)
