MVR 3-16-16

Ramblings aren’t always wagers.

Race 1 – Trainer Carl Deville appears to be trying to find some relief for stock that is taking it on the chin at the Fairgrounds; tries two turns with #1 UTOPIA’S VIRGIN. This is as soft as it gets in Austintown. (winner $3.60)

Race 2 – Stakes placed in 2015 #6 CULPEPPER CREEK makes his season debut at an interestingly low level; MVR was the site of his last win but you have to dial back to 29Nov14. (second)

Race 3 – #7 IMPULSE IDEA was clicking through conditions locally until her aggressive spotting last time; good post draw outside other speed. #3 NANJING ROAD was probably in deep 27Feb; this is her preferred distance. (winner $3.40, second)

Race 4 – Many options: #4 WHITEWOOD INDIAN looks like a well-timed claim by Glenn Kopp; drops out of open company. #3 QEYAAS takes a steep drop for his return east; has three works here. #1 FINAL ANSWER was run down by a buzz saw last time; has stretched out successfully before; appears to like running in goo. Dominic Giglio, Jr. has been very productive with his Florida acquisitions; however #9 UNDERTAKER most of his winning has been done under Yagour colors. (sixth, second, seventh, eighth)

Race 5 – Steven Got Even filly #4 KENTUCKY LADY gets her first dose of Lasix after fading behind well-meant winner HOWLING WOLF. Looking forward to an interesting paddock visit: #7 BELIEF was sent out by Christophe Clement for $60k at Belmont Park in October then sold at auction in January for $3k; #8 CRICHLOW ALLEY by Flower Alley was a modest purchase in 2014 after being bred by Eugene Melnyk. (winner $11.80, fifth, fourth)

Race 6 – #2 GAME ON BRO takes the hood off to face several that he beat 17Feb. Eric Reed has been shipping in “live” stock; #6 THE CINCO KID needed to find Texas company to score but was competitive in Chicago before going out there. #8 VAN DAMME oozes class when compared to these but seems unproven on dirt. (third, last, second)

Race 7 – #4 HEZALOTTA WANDA has been knocking heads with good company in recent trials. #7 MOTOR CITY might like this field more than the group that greeted him to MVR. #10 BENNYFAX also earned a strangely high speed fig from a poor finish in 23Feb race4? (fifth, seventh, winner $5.80)

Race 8 – Lightly raced #8 MEDIA STAR can make amends for the local debut flop at her winning distance and moderate class drop; at her best she’s much the fastest. (winner $8.80)
