Race notes for Saturday
Race 1 – Getting of the rail won’t hurt #5 CATMAR he was herded way inside at the break last time. Speed along the rail gives #1 CALEB’S DESIRE a shot to upset with lifetime best effort.
Race 2 – #6 FLORIDA GEM is suddenly back in shape while racing at a reasonable level. #3 LEOTA ROCKSTAR went too fast too soon last time; improved post position today.
Race 3 – Two “horses for this course” #1 ROOM FOR APTITUDE and #8 CINDER TIME (4/6) have been freshened for this meet. If fit, their back class fills the exacta.
Exacta box: 1/8 Pick-6: 1,8/4/6,8/3/5/3
Race 4 – Today’s cut back could spell victory #4 IFYOUSNOOZEYOULOSE; under achiever since being sent to the midwest. #8 CIG CIEGA has been working steadily toward this return to racing after a year away; well bred but risky at a short price. John Bourke has been sending his entries (#7 SIGNAL RIDGE) to post full of run.
Race 5 – The return to his preferred distance enhances the chance for always speedy #6 RUSSIAN RHAPSODY who was run down on an opening day surface unkind to front runners. Recency, success at the distance along with 20/1 morning line make #8 BIRDIE NUM NUMS an interesting upset candidate.
Win: #8 Pick-4: 8/3,6,10/5/3
Scratch of #8 BIRDIE NUM NUMS blows up pick-4
Race 6 – Lots of lost sheep looking for a friendly home in this one. #3 ICHTLI may have landed at a racing venue that she’ll enjoy. #10 MUCUBAJI, daughter of Eskenderya, resurfaces here after breaking her maiden in New York last spring. #6 DON’T GIVE WAY (1/26) shows a good trip over this surface that can’t be ignored.
Scratch of #3 ICHTLI blows up pick-6
Race 7 – Head to head match-ups favor #5 NIKISPRING. #6 IF I looked like a winner last time; today’s cut back helps his hopes.
Race 8 – Perhaps the new environment can help #3 OLD KEY WEST stretch his speed in this toss up. Only #12 CHOP SUEY showed any spark among those with a trip here this fall.
