Ramblings rather than selections . . .
Race 1: INDYCOTT (1)
Rudy Rodriguez tosses in a head scratching uncoupled pair of front runners that may be the best of the bunch. Passing the meet opener doesn’t appeal, so chalky INDYCOTT (1) gets the nod. He likes Saratoga and is proven at today’s distance. Veteran MARRIAGE FEVER (4) will get consideration. His recent gutsy performances allow a chance if the early runners cook each other. Recap: 1*-6-2-8 ($4.90) Rudy’s runners duel down the stretch for one stable exacta. MARRIAGE FEVER pressed into the stretch before tiring badly.
Race 4: PATTERNRECOGNITION (3)
This very quick late starter was beaten last time by a precocious and undefeated Team Pletcher runner. Bill Mott import VIA EGNATIA (5) finished his Saratoga works brilliantly, apparently shipped from England seeking dirt and medication. Result: 8-3*-7-6 ($8.60) The choice was ridden confidently in mid-pack until swung widest of all on the corner; finished willingly but was left with way too much to do behind the loose leader. The import didn’t show up.
Race 8: SNOWFIRE (8)
She won her debut at today’s distance and came to town in time to work over the surface. Team Pletcher starts STAINLESS (9). I like the wide post position for both babies. Recap: 4-3-9*-8* ($11.00) The highlighted fillies lugged up late foe way back consolation prizes behind explosive DREAM IT IS who won off as she pleased.
That makes it 3-1-1-0 (-$1.10) for the day and 3-1-1-0 (-$1.10) for the meet, figuring the top picks on a $2 base.
