Saratoga 7/23

Race 4: MAIN ROAD (3)
Has been running spiritedly with winners in the mid-west, now tries to crack five “need the lead” maiden winners from Belmont. Ron Moquette coaxes Jose Ortiz on board. Result: 2-5-7-1 ($8.70) No match for the winner’s blazing fractions; dueled early faded to back of the pack.

Early running style and rail post are both positives at today’s distance on this course. SECURITIZ (3) gets Jose Ortiz for Jimmy Jerkens, his a stayer that could make noise late. Thinking exacta . . . . Result: 4-3*-1*-7 ($20.00) SECURITIZ engineered a perfect stalking trip putting away the choice in a thrilling stretch drive. Meanwhile a 9/1 runner, SEEKING THE SOUL pushed by the tired pair at the wire.

“Speed of the speed,” drops while sharp to collect and tease would-be claimers. Result: 11-4-6-2 ($13.20)  Another speed and die deal.

Possible “horse for course” with front end speed that fits this grass. Result: 12-9-10-6  ($24.00)  Another speed and die deal.

You win Saratoga! I’m limping back to Thistledown.

4-0-0-1 (-$8.00) on Sunday and 9-1-1-1 (-$13.10) for the meet, figuring the top picks on a $2 win ticket through Sunday, July 23.
