Thistledown 7/31

Just rambling . . .

Race 1: Team Loooch has something for every occasion from coast to coast, while continuing to stock the entry box at Thistledown. Their #7 SYNTHESIZER was pushed every step last time; he may get a breather today. #6 DAYJUR HOOQ came off the bench running; got a nice set up but couldn’t close the deal on 08July after being last raced at Golden Gate in February. He’s the obvious threat. 1*-6*-2-5 ($10.00)

Race 2: #4 COME ON SID was bold into the stretch before folding in his CLE debut; another aggressive ride could surprise. Equipment change, rail and slop presented #3 IMPERIAL SLIPPERS lots of new stuff worry about last time after clean debut; maybe much improved today; MAYBE. 7-1-3*-2 ($3.20)

Race 3: Very interesting group, difficult to separate. Israel Garcia’s Indian Grand connections are solid. They send him #3 VALUE VOUCHER for this try. #6 FIFTY SHADES was impressive 12July facing slightly better company. #5 MAJOR DRAMA makes a big drop for dangerous connections.  #2 SILVER CRUSADER has been too speedy here to ignore. 2*-6*-5*-3* ($6.60)

Race 4: #3, pp2 HUMBLE HANSEN appears much the strongest of the local runners. Grant Forest returns with another of his stable full of ship-in maidens. #4, pp3 HARDLY A SECRET is going to be a big factor if those fractions, recorded in the Churchill slop, hold up here. 4*-2-3*-6 ($2.40)

Race 5: 2yo fillies . . . expect the unexpected. #5 RAGS TO ROSES cornered well in his last behind a run-off winner. 2-6-5*-1 ($3.80)

Race 6: Ohio breds that start their careers like #6, pp7 KATALUST, competitve on a major curcuit, are always the elephant in the room. Chances are that her class gets her around two turns in front today. #3, pp2 RIPROARING is an interesting prospect after tangling with Ohio’s best shortly after cracking her maiden. The rider in Megan’s seat is unkown by these pages. If #1, pp RACHEL’s first route is credible, she’ll take some catching over a surface that has been kind to early runners around two turns lately. Scratch 1A, 6. 4-3*-2-5 ($33.40)

Race 7: Several of the track’s top trainers square off here with sharp sprinters. Raw times at five and a half furlongs and slight class advantages point to #6 BRONCOJOENVINNY and #1 PACIFIC IMAGE but there will be no margin for error leaving the gate. 6*-1-*-3-7 ($2.40)

Race 8: Ancient #4 NATIVE BRITCHES showed some of the spark from his youth last time; there’s hope if someone hooks #1 RED ALE early. That one dueled with SYNTHESIZER (entered in today’s opener) until they were over taken by a deep closer on 15July. This inconsistent bunch could produce fireworks. 6-1*-5-2 ($5.60)
