Thistledown 8/02

Just rambling . . .

Kenneth Marshall’s stable is the latest local outfit to catch fire. Entering horses at Thistledown and Mountaineer their last eleven races have returned an 11-6-2-2 record including a three for three afternoon/evening on Monday. They have Mountaineer last-time winners in both halves of today’s daily double. A 1-5 double would continue the streak.

Race 1: #2 FLASH SCORES won in hand when dropped 15July; clicking through conditions. #4 PIRATE RADIO returns to his winning distance after being pinned to the rail late in his last trip. Scratch #2 – 1-4*-6-3 ($3.40)

Race 2: #1 STREET GRAY moves up a class after rare Joseph Mahan claim; sharper than most of this field; solid back class. Swift maiden breaker #4 HOOROO could say good-bye early for his hot barn if the rail horse doesn’t spring the gate. He has trained well here. Tough call. 1*-3-4*-6 ($2.60)

Race 3: Lightly raced Ohio babies. First-timer, #1A WEST LEONARD, is a Colonel John colt out of a dam that produces 2yo winners . . . ? 1-1A*-3-4-6 ($2.40)

Race 4: #3, pp2 DEPUTY WANDA has been competitive facing better. Another dropper, #5, pp4 BULLNDA, is a “grinder” possibly strengthened by the turn-back. Interesting call for Rex Stokes III? Scratch #5 – 4-3*-1-2 ($23.60)

Race 5: #2 RUNNIN GUN has been turning in consistently faster five and half furlong efforts than the other local runners. Charlie William’s Florida claim, #5 SCAMANDER, has been working alertly here; drew the attention of the morning line maker. 2*-3-6-1 ($4.40)

Race 6: Ohio-bred, #3 TEAM HALO, dominated several (most) of these 17July while finishing strong. A repeat of that effort two back might get #7 TOUR OF LOVE home in front; the pace should be there again. 3*-2-6-5 ($5.00)

Race 7: #3 LUCKYALLMYLIFE is a fast and consistent filly facing this short but talented field; seemed within herself while finishing with #5 SARGE’S DAUGHTER behind talented PROPER DISCRETION last time. 6-3*-4-5* ($6.00)

Race 8: A return to form by #4 HARD ENOUGH would not shock. #1 WHISKEY CURES UGLY is always the one to catch which means he has a chance. Everything about Team Loooch’s runner, #10 LITTLE AWESOME, is interesting and mysterious; Jockey Jane looks good in vibrant green. Scratch #4 – 5-10-3-1* ($8.60)
