Race over this track:
22/164 13% MVR
Race notes for Saturday
Race 1 – #8 TAPPIN THE MAGIC appears the most persistent of these. #3 THEANA is an Uncle Mo filly that showed some early run before backing out of tight quarters and getting bogged down on sloppy rail last time; adds blinkers today.
Race 2 – Second to a next time winner 5Nov #7 FORESTER’S DIVA may encounter a softer group today. Indiana invader #3 ORALEE has scratched twice since her spirited loss.
Race 3 – #3 UNBRIDLED LEADER popped at first 2016 asking against Buckeyes. #8 LAID BACK LADY (1/17) touts the best speed figs; could wake up for new barn trying one turn.
Race 4 – #9 BOSS MAN BOB seems well spotted to repeat; PID experience helps. #10 SWEEPING VICTORY gets Megan back with class relief. “Horses for course” #1 AVGOLEMONO and #8 RIDE IN THE PARK are tempting longshots.
Race 5 –
#3 POW WOW PAL has been competitive off the bench at larger venues; drop in class may off set distance concerns. #8 (pp9) OLSTONE FARMHOUSE is capable of carrying the distance off similar efforts out of town. (Scratch #3 POW WOW PAL)
Race 6 – #11 WEST EIGHTH STREET broke his maiden with an impressive trip and clocking for her new connections 31Oct; wide post in bulky field could be an issue.#7 TRUE ALL ALONG* was out dueled while besting a handful of these last time. *BLINGITONAGAIN’s performance in the fifth race should be considered here – he headed #7 TRUE ALL ALONG and others in this field 2Nov.
Race 7 – (OHIO ACCREDITED STAKE) Defending champ #5 DENIRO’S SAINT tries to repeat off long works; proven at this distance and clqss when fit. #3 LEONA’S REWARD has never been better; looking to catch the champ short.
Race 8 – (OHIO REGISTERED STAKE) Recent Ohio Sprint champ #3 RIVERS RUN DEEP is the only runner to defeat MO DONT NO in Ohio company since Mo’s debut effort in May. Perhaps lighter 2016 schedule gives him a slight advantage today.
#1 MO DONT NO has recorded Ohio stakes wins at distances from six to ten furlongs; lots of heart. #7 CANDY BITES usually forces the pace and hangs with the big two. (Scratch #1 MO DONT NO)
Race 9 – How does $625k Keeneland purchase #1 PESUASION by Distorted Humor land in Austintown along with #4 BROTHERLY ($335k by Blame)? Early running style favors # BROTHERLY competitive at this level on the grass.
Race notes for Monday
A race over the track is a positive – NO horse has repeated so far in the meet.
Race 1 – Outside post and early foot aid #8 ORALEE. #2 DANCEWHILEITSTROMS could sharpen at her best distance.
Race 2 – #5 HELLUVA NOTION finds her best speed here. #2 ONCE MORE FOR LOVE matched strides with HELLUVA NOTION after a slow start 07Oct.
Race 3 – #5 CUBICLE QUEEN fits at today’s distance. #6 CANTICO always brings her “A” game.
Race 4 – #9 TIZ A CHARM was over matched last time. #8 FUNNY MORNING wanted more ground last time. William Cowans (#6 SPIRIT FINGERS) debuts maiden special weights at 28%.
Race 5 – Mountaineer shipper #5 BELLA FIGLIA has been solid against better in the east. #9 (PP10) HIGH ARCH MISS danced last time with MEDIA STAR who won here 31Oct. Early speed puts #1 (PP3) CATAFIRE into play despite crummy record here.
Race 6 – #4 TALENT MAN (3/6 here) is the first starter this meet for Sharon Ruberto a 33% trainer last season. #10 FORCE MULTIPLIER (6/16 here) is stuck in the eleven hole. #2 (PP1) HIGH MYSTERY (7/9 in the exacta here) gets first jump along the rail.
Race 7 – Recent success here at today’s distance gives #5 RIGHTEOUS RIDE an opportunity to repeat. #4 SCHADDEI is the late threat for a barn that goes route to sprint at a 32% clip.
Race 8 – #2 TRUE CINDER has been sprinting with Ohio’s top 2yo filly prospects all summer. #9 MIZZ QUOTED exits Ohio stakes company going two turns.
Race notes for Saturday
Race 1 – Getting of the rail won’t hurt #5 CATMAR he was herded way inside at the break last time. Speed along the rail gives #1 CALEB’S DESIRE a shot to upset with lifetime best effort.
Race 2 – #6 FLORIDA GEM is suddenly back in shape while racing at a reasonable level. #3 LEOTA ROCKSTAR went too fast too soon last time; improved post position today.
Race 3 – Two “horses for this course” #1 ROOM FOR APTITUDE and #8 CINDER TIME (4/6) have been freshened for this meet. If fit, their back class fills the exacta.
Exacta box: 1/8 Pick-6: 1,8/4/6,8/3/5/3
Race 4 – Today’s cut back could spell victory #4 IFYOUSNOOZEYOULOSE; under achiever since being sent to the midwest. #8 CIG CIEGA has been working steadily toward this return to racing after a year away; well bred but risky at a short price. John Bourke has been sending his entries (#7 SIGNAL RIDGE) to post full of run.
Race 5 – The return to his preferred distance enhances the chance for always speedy #6 RUSSIAN RHAPSODY who was run down on an opening day surface unkind to front runners. Recency, success at the distance along with 20/1 morning line make #8 BIRDIE NUM NUMS an interesting upset candidate.
Win: #8 Pick-4: 8/3,6,10/5/3
Scratch of #8 BIRDIE NUM NUMS blows up pick-4
Race 6 – Lots of lost sheep looking for a friendly home in this one. #3 ICHTLI may have landed at a racing venue that she’ll enjoy. #10 MUCUBAJI, daughter of Eskenderya, resurfaces here after breaking her maiden in New York last spring. #6 DON’T GIVE WAY (1/26) shows a good trip over this surface that can’t be ignored.
Scratch of #3 ICHTLI blows up pick-6
Race 7 – Head to head match-ups favor #5 NIKISPRING. #6 IF I looked like a winner last time; today’s cut back helps his hopes.
Race 8 – Perhaps the new environment can help #3 OLD KEY WEST stretch his speed in this toss up. Only #12 CHOP SUEY showed any spark among those with a trip here this fall.
Race notes for Wednesday (expecting slop)
Race 1 – Fort Erie shippers are 3/16; Elliot Sullivan is 1/7 with those types. Belterra shippers are 11/118; Larry Smith is 0/4 with those types. Horses second race over the strip are 3/29. Shippers from Indiana are 1/26. Shippers from Mountaineer are 4/68. The rail may not be kind to #1 AIMER MIEUX unless she leaves early which is’t her typical deal. #4 REMEMBER ROSIE won here 31Oct despite her Belterra roots. #3 GLORY RANGE has done all of his winning at Belterra but one of those wins was in front running style over a muddy track.
Race 2 -This is the first route of the season for 2yo filly maidens. The lack of a front running type makes this race tough to handicap.
Race 3 – Presque Isle shippers are 5/27 (well above last season’s 7% in 88 tries) #2 DESERT TUNE has struggled getting to the races since her 2yo season but was a G1 runner a year ago; probably gets a tracking trip today. Eric Reed apparently has very high hopes for #5 FOUND A DIAMOND.
Race 4 – Loren Cox was a 22% trainer here last season. #6 HOUSE OF PRAYER grabbed two wins for him. 30/1 looks juicy on #7 HE’S ETAIN is another “horse for course.”
Race 5 – Robert Gorham’s horses have been out running their odds. It looks like his entry will run featuring a rabbit and a closer. #6 SUPER HUMOR beat six out seven for $50k at Keeneland shipping there from Presque Isle.
Race 6 – Winner should be one of the “needs the lead” types (#8,#9,#10). However #10 PREMIER ACCESS stalked tough NIKISPRING at Thistledown 26Sept on sloppy track.
Race 7 – Mike Pappada (#9 PYRO CITY) won at 25% percent clip here last year. Today’s runner is the first in from his Presque Isle string. He was 2/2 with his Erie to Austintown shippers in 2015. Sarvis may have had his choice of mounts. #5 WALK AWAY SLOW is off two solid efforts in Cleveland; class drop.
Race 8 – Four second timers in here (#1,#4,#10,#11). #3 ENLESS ESCAPE ships from Mountaineer but was competitive elsewhere and could get loose while others scramble from wider posts. (#1 SHAWKLIT MILKSHAKE has done me wrong plenty).
Pick-6 starts in race 3 – 2,5/6,7/1,6/10/5,9/3
Race notes for Monday
Race 1 – #5 SECRET BETRAYAL probably gets pocket trip should handle dirt. Early running style gives #2 CLASSICSISTER JILL a chance. 1-6-2*-5* ($11.40)
Race 2 – #2 HOOSIER ROAD has taken an interesting route to this race; much the best if healthy and fit. #5 CASE ACE has been prepping forwardly here for his return to racing. 6-7-2*-3 ($12.60)
Race 3 – Looks like the right time and place for a Sullivan import #8 SHE’S ALL THAT to pop. #4 RED VELET LADY goes second of lay off; broke maiden here a year ago. $4.40 winner 8*-4*-5-7
Race 4 – #6 PAJAMA JO is undefeated . . . ? Rough bunch to separate. 1-4-3-7 ($7.00)
Race 5 – #2 (PP1) COQUETONA controls her own destiny gunning along the rail after a good effort against better. #8 OPTIMISM has all the markings of a horse that is going to do well here; this is a challenging test. $7.20 winner 2*-6-7-3
Race 6 – #7 (PP8) TEPU WAR returns to a realistic level. #4 CONTE; hot barn, consistent warrior. 6-7*-1-8 ($11.00)
Race 7 – #8 CALL ME CLEVER looks like the early runner most likely to last 6f. #6 VEXATIOUS VIXEN was my choice 28Oct when he dumped Edgar; Canadian speedster. 7-10-9-6* ($6.00)
Race 8 – Early runner#6 CROWN POLIS returns at a tasty level for solid MNR barn shipping in. Scratch #6 CROWN POLIS 10-9-7-1 ($4.40)
